Frequently ASked QUestions

When it comes to your well-being, there are no bad questions.

I’ll try my best to answer them.

  • Struggling in silence takes a toll. If you have noticed that you aren’t able to do all of the things you need to do, or are no longer enjoying things you used to find pleasure in-it maybe time to seek some support. While you may know that therapy will be helpful to you, consider the following to know if now is the right time for you:

Readiness to Reflect: Being open to exploring your thoughts and feelings, and understanding your behaviors is a wonderful start. It's like peeling back layers to discover more about yourself. Are you ready to take a deep dive?

Ability to Embrace Challenges: Stepping out of your comfort zone can be daunting, but it's where growth truly happens. Confronting fears and limiting beliefs is a brave step towards positive change. If you are ready to begin to explore taking some steps out of your comfort zone, therapy might be right for you.

Commitment to personal growth: True change comes with focused and consistent work toward building on insights and skills week to week. Therapy involves a financial and time commitment. It is likely the right time for therapy if you are willing to invest the necessary resources to prioritize your mental health and personal development.

Openness to Therapy: Starting therapy involves trust and openness. Embracing this process, being receptive to guidance and new perspectives, is key to its success. It's a bit like taking a leap of faith into a realm of self-discovery.

Ultimately, deciding you are ready for therapy means you are deciding to prioritize your own wellness and self-growth. This path holds the key to unlocking your potential and paving the way for a more fulfilling life.

  • I am currently a private-pay, out-of-network provider. While we don't accept insurances directly, your insurance may have out-of-network benefits, which means that they will support the cost of our services.

I work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. To see if you qualify for reimbursement, you can use this link: Check my benefits

If you qualify, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed. They charge a 5% fee per claim and have helped people get thousands of dollars back per year. You can sign up using this link: Register with Mentaya

Note: Mentaya's goal is to save you time and money. It's completely optional, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from your participation.

If you prefer, you may use your credit card to securely pay the private-pay rate.

  • I am a private pay therapist. I do not participate in any insurance network. I do not bill insurance companies, communicate with insurance companies, or accept payment from insurance companies. Choosing to work with me as a private pay therapist offers several benefits to my clients:

Increased Flexibility and Choice: As a private pay therapist, I have the freedom to tailor our sessions to meet your specific needs without the limitations imposed by insurance panels. This allows for more personalized and effective therapy, as we can focus on what matters most to you.

Expedited Access to Care: As a private pay client, you have the advantage of receiving services promptly without worrying about the lengthy approval process and administrative hassles imposed by insurance companies. This means you can start therapy sooner and receive the support you need without unnecessary delays.

Enhanced Privacy and Confidentiality: As a private pay therapist, your privacy and confidentiality are prioritized. Since we do not have to involve insurance companies, your personal information remains securely within our therapeutic relationship. Insurance companies often limit coverage to services deemed "medically necessary," which can restrict the scope of your care. Additionally, utilizing insurance necessitates a mental health diagnosis being documented in your permanent health record. As a private pay therapist, your sessions and progress stay between us.

Customized Treatment Approach: Without the constraints imposed by insurance requirements, we can explore a broader range of therapeutic modalities and techniques that best align with your unique goals and preferences. This flexibility allows for a more tailored and effective treatment experience.

Seamless Payment Process: Working with me as a private pay therapist means you have a streamlined and hassle-free payment process. With a credit card on file, you don't need to worry about submitting claims or waiting for reimbursement. Payments are automatically processed, allowing you to focus solely on your therapeutic journey.

It's important to carefully consider what approach best suits your needs when deciding whether to work with me as a private pay therapist or utilize insurance coverage. By weighing the benefits of personalized care, privacy, and streamlined payment against potential insurance restrictions, you can make an informed choice that aligns with your unique circumstances and goals.

If you would like to utilize your out-of-network benefits that may be an option too. See “Do you accept insurance?” section for more information about utilizing out-of-network benefits.

  • We will start with a free 15 minute telephone call to meet one another. I’ll ask a few questions about your concerns, what you would like to address in treatment and your experience with any past therapy. You’ll have an opportunity to ask questions to get to know me, Dr. Sank, my practice and what to expect from therapy. From there, we will find a date and time for our first therapy session.

  • Our first therapy session is usually the longest when we go over your background and narrow down some specific goals for treatment. We will go review all of your treatment options to help you reach your goals and then solidify our treatment plan-think of it like a road map for our care. Based on that roadmap, we will set our schedule to build on our plan week by week.

You should leave each therapy session with new skills and approaches to begin applying in your real life. I think of therapy sometimes as like meeting with a personal trainer who guides you on new ways of doing things-sometimes those new approaches feel foreign or uncomfortable, but the more you practice the stronger you grow and the more natural this new way feels. By building on those new changes week by week, you’ll begin to notice improvement in your symptoms and you will be setting yourself up for lasting changes that persist even when therapy ends.

  • No Surprises Act

This Act references your rights to understand the anticipated costs of treatment at the outset. As a private-pay/out-of-network provider, I will provide you an estimate, in good -faith, of anticipated expenses related to your care.
